INTRODUCTION
The Simien Mountains are a vast mountain range in Ethiopia with many summits above 4,000 meters (13,000 feet). The highest peak is Ras Dashen which stands at 4,543 meters (14,901 feet), making it the fourth highest mountain in Africa. Trekking here is fantastic, not only because of the scenery, gorges and streams, but also because you get a chance to see some unique, endemic wildlife like the gelada baboon and Walia Ibex. The best time to trek is from September to November, when it’s dry, green and relatively dust free. October in particular can be spectacular because the wildflowers are in bloom.

Have lunch in Semien Lodge on your way to Sankaber. After pitching your tent you will make a short acclimatization walk. Overnight camping
Day 3: Trek to Geech and view the gelada baboon, and beautiful scenery (5 – 6 hours).
Trek east ward along g a narrow ridge with the escarpment to the north and climb up to Mechoki. Enjoy the water fall where the Jinbahir plunges into the Geech abyss. Drop into the valley across the Jinbahir River then steeply up through Geech village. After passing the village you reach Geech camp. Overnight camping
Day 4: Trek to Chenek-long day trekking (7 – 8 hours).
Walk to the summit of Met Gogo (2hrs) through the giant lobelia trees. Met Gogo is a large peak to the east of the camp, with spectacular views across the foothills and plains. Returning back on the same track to the field then descend to the valley then climb up through the forest of Heath and Hypericum, at the higher level pass through the lobelia trees to reach to the peak of Enatye (4070m) this is among the places that you can spot the summit of Ras Dejen in the clear sky. Then descend to reach Chenek. Over night camping
Day 5: Trek to Bwahit and keep trekking to Ambiquo (8 – 9 hours).
Trek to the peak of Bwahit (4430m). It is in between Chenek and Bwahit best to spot the endemic Walya Ibex, the rare simian fox and klipspringer. From Bwahit it is possible to spot Ras Dejen. From the view point the path drops steeply down, passing through the village of Chiro Leba and continue walking down until you reach Mesheha River. Then climb up to reach Ambiquo. Over night camping
Day 6: Morning trek to Ras Dashen summit of the mountain and back to Ambiquo (7 – 8 hours).
Start trekking early in the morning because this trek is a round trek. Climb up to reach the small village of Misma and climb steeply to reach a ridge crest overlooking a larger valley. Follow the path towards Ras Dejen, surrounded by three major buttresses with steep sides of exposed rocks. From this point it is not possible to see which buttress is the highest. To reach to the peak follow the path through the scramble up gully then climb up to find the pile of rock, marking the peak. After lunch descend to Arkwaziye retracing the same way back. Over night camping
Day 7: After breakfast trek to Mekarbiya (6 – 7 hours).
The route today gives the best walk of the trek as it follows the high ridge across several peaks. Some of them can be skirted round at a lower level and there are a couple of escape routes for earlier descents. For the faint-hearted (and faint legged) it is easy to go with the mules along the lower path and reach the next camp in about six hours. The prominent peaks are: Kidus Yared (4453mts.), Abba Yared (4409mts.), Silki (4420mts.), and Beroch Wuha (4272mts.). On the open ridge below is the small village of Arkwaziye, the village inhabitants are friendly; and it’s a good opportunity for us to meet the locals, and see them as real people rather than just colourful “extras” in the landscape. Overnight camping
Day 8: Trek to Adiarkay, then drive to Gondar (2 – 3 hours).
A short walk in the morning along a forested ridge and then through fields takes you to the road-head, where you meet your vehicle to take you to Gonder. From here you drive Gonder to arrive in mid afternoon. Overnight in Gondar
Day 9: Fly back to Addis
We will catch a morning flight back to Addis Ababa, arriving in time for lunch. Lunch will be in a restaurant before the check in. The afternoon is free for leisure. Evening Departure
